NV HOPE

A week long, non-traditional, boot camp style education experience

NV Hope Overview

NV Hope started in 2019 via collaboration of Nevada Action Coalition, Nevada Nursing & Healthcare Workforce Center, Valley Health Systems, College of Southern Nevada (Nursing) and NV Careers LLC. Program has been supported by Nevada System of Higher Education and Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Our mission is to qualify financially disadvantaged populations for entry-level careers in health care as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA). We have served over 250 job seekers to date. 83% are gainfully employed in healthcare. The average compensation wages are, $28,000-63,000. Since our inception, we have also added four new employer partners and expanded our CNA education provider pool.

We offer a week long, non-traditional, boot camp style education experience through which candidates qualify themselves for advancement. Candidate preparedness to pursue CNA education is verified through classroom assessment, stop the bleed certification along with an interactive experience at the UNLV School of Medicine’s Clinical Simulation Lab. Our program design allows candidates to realize how their life experience serves as currency in their pursuits of a nursing career.

Lastly, we qualify candidate cultural alignment with employer partners. Upon completion of our boot camp, candidates are advanced to interview and extended offers of employment. Employment contract is pending successful completion of CNA education program.

We support candidate growth and success with nurse mentors, career coach and life coaches for up to 12 month term from their program enrollment date. Nurse mentors help candidates decode the health care culture, while life coaches provide the tools to promote candidate emotional, physical and spiritual health and wellness.

Covid 19 is exacerbating the nursing shortage facing Nevada resulting from a greater percentage of the population requiring hospitalization and a more rigorous nursing practice required by long-term care facilities to keep patients safe. The pandemic is also resulting in an ever growing dislocated worker population. NV Hope is uniquely positioned to help transition dislocated workers and address the nursing shortage facing Nevada.
