Elizabeth E. Fildes, EdD, RN, CNE, CARN-AP, APHN-BC, professor of post-licensure degree programs at Chamberlain College of Nursing, was elected to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Board of Directors on Saturday, June 25, at the ANA Membership Assembly in Washington, DC. Dr. Fildes will serve as a director-at-large on the board for one-year term beginning January 1, 2017.

“The board exercises the corporate responsibility and fiduciary duties of ANA; determines and promotes the Association’s strategic goals; and administers and implements programs and policies established by the ANA Bylaws and as delegated by the ANA Membership Assembly”.

Additionally, the board promotes the ANA’s mission of advancing the nursing profession to improve health for all.

Additionally, Dr. Fildes has been recognized for her work as a smoking cessation advocate by the Nevada Cancer Coalition, Southern Nevada Health District and Nevada Tobacco Prevention Coalition, among other organizations. Her work demonstrates the power of nurses as leaders in creating a culture of health.

Dr. Fildes says that this new position makes her a “conduit of more good.” She hopes that the “good” she shares will continue to embolden and empower our students and nurses to lead health policy initiatives to increase access to the quality primary, secondary and tertiary prevention services within their areas of influence.
